How did you first come to the disability sector?

When I first came to Australia as a dependent on my spouse’s work Visa, I was excited about the various opportunities to start my career here and I started in the hospitality sector. After taking an extended maternity break, I was looking to restart my career and learned about the disability and home care sector from a friend. I’ve started my journey on this exciting new career at FlexiHome care and never looked back. I’ve soon come to realize that this is what I genuinely love doing as I can make a difference in the lives of people for the better.

What do you like about working with FlexiHome Care?

The best thing about FlexiHome care is the work environment. For every shift, I am given information about the customer and his or her support needs. I also get shifts tailored to suit my strengths and abilities. The support coordinator is always available to provide guidance.

Why do you enjoy working in the disability sector?

For me, the most rewarding thing about working in this sector is constant job satisfaction. I know that I make a difference in someone’s day to day life every time I go to work. I also get to meet a lot of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

How has your time at FlexiHome Care helped you overcome challenges?

When I started at FlexiHome care, I was new to this sector and was nervous. The team at FlexiHome care helped me to adapt quickly and overcome my fears. We have a great team culture and care for each other.

What advice do you have for people in this sector to be successful?

It is important to understand that everyone is different, so it is good not to make assumptions. In my experience, if you care for people and follow the process, this can be a rewarding career option. Constant learning and completing certifications is another great way to move forward in this profession
